In a recent interview with Pocket-Lint, famed Nintendo head Shigeru Miyamoto, stated that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is “over half complete” with no further explanations offered. This probably comes as some shock to gamers as we have been told repeatedly that the game will be shipping in early 2011.
For example, in July 2010, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma told Nintendo Power that the “basis” for Skyward Sword is “very, very solid” and that “early 2011” is what the team targeted for release. At E3 2010, Miyamoto also stated that regardless of the embarrassing live demo, Skyward Sword was in its “final stretch” with just “some dungeons to create” and finishing touches to be done.
So how is the game now suddenly only half complete? Did they decide to add a significant portion to the game? Did they completely redesign some areas? Was Nintendo simply lying to us? Is Skyward Sword really going to ship in the first half of 2011?
I’m never angry at delays because it’s usually for the better so even if it doesn’t make their target window, I won’t be mad. However, I feel that fans deserve some kind of explanation for why the game went from being “in the final stretch” six months ago to “over half complete” now. What do you all think?
