After a brief stint together at the end of the current season of Parks and Recreation, Variety reports that Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd will reunite for a new comedy from David Wain entitled They Came Together.

Wain, who directed Role Models and February’s Wanderlust, both of which starred Rudd, wrote the script with longtime collaborator Michael Showalter right after Wet Hot American Summer. The project hit the back burner at Universal and now Lionsgate has now agreed to produce the film.

Poehler and Rudd participated in a table read of the script at San Francisco Sketchfest in January. Variety’s description of  the story is as follows:

When Joel (Rudd) and Molly (Poehler) meet, it’s hate at first sight; his big corporation is the one that threatens to shut down her quirky knick-knack store. Story, which follows their predictably on-again/off-again relationship, features rom-com staples such as the jealous ex-girlfriend, the office jerk, scary in-laws, a boring dentist, a wise dog and beautiful shots of New York City in autumn.

Wain’s comedy style has always been silly but in a down-to-earth sort of way. The criminally under-seen Wanderlust handled a myriad of stereotypical characters that felt genuine despite the film’s aimless plot. With Poehler, Rudd and likely boundless other familiar faces, They Came Together should be another odd delight.
