A recent interview with Ubisoft‘s Philippe Bergeron regarding Assassin’s Creed III has revealed the omission of a feature from last years’ Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, that being the tower defense-based gameplay sections.
Bergeron said that the feature, which was mostly optional in Revelations, “wasn’t flying any more”, and that the development team wanted to give the series a fresh start in terms of gameplay. He went onto say that they wanted to keep what worked from previous games as well as address various issues that have plagued the series in the past.
Seeing how the tower defense system was a commonly criticized feature of Revelations by reviewers, this is probably a wise move. It will be interesting to see what new gameplay mechanics replace it, especially if the ship battle gameplay shown at E3 is any indication.
Assassin’s Creed III is scheduled for an October 30th release. We will keep you updated as more news on the game rolls out.
