It would be an understatement to say that the Witcher franchise has grown in popularity since the release of Andrzej Sapkowski’s last novel within that world, Season of Storms, around a decade ago.
One would think that Sapkowski would be looking to capitalize on the momentum that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the popular Netflix series have created for the franchise, and get cracking on another novel. As it turns out, it may well be in the cards.
Speaking with Polish publication Dzieje at the 2023 Taipei International Book Exhibition, Sapkowski confirmed that more Witcher novels are in his plans, however, he was reluctant to offer any more details beyond that.
As for the nature of those novels, they are unlikely to be any direct sequel to Geralt’s story. Per Redanian Intelligence, the last time Sapkowski commented on the prospect of more Witcher novels in detail, he mentioned that he is likely to deliver a prequel or sidequel, seeing as he considers the saga to already be complete.
We’re just going to have to sit tight and wait for more ways to sink ourselves into the world of The Witcher. Beyond Sapkowski’s novel, we can also expect season three of Netflix’s The Witcher hopefully sometime in the midyear, which will be Henry Cavill’s swansong in the titular role before handing it off to Liam Hemsworth.
As far as games go, there is a remake of the first Witcher game in the works, as well as a whole new entry in CD Projekt Red’s series of games, codenamed ‘Polaris.’
