Pedro Pascal will do anything for his fans … but he won’t do that. The Last of Us actor recently revealed the one fan request he refuses to fulfill. And though it’s not taking his helmet off it is related to his character in The Mandalorian. Pascal says there’s one thing about his popular Star Wars character that’s just a little creepy if he’s not wearing his costume.
“People come up to me and ask me to do the voice for their kids,” Pascal said during a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show. And while he understands that Mandalorian Bounty Hunter Din Djarin is popular with young fans, there’s something about the character’s voice that doesn’t really sit quite right if you can see his face.
“It sounds inappropriate because it is a breathy, low register ‘bedroom’ voice,” Pascal told Norton, adding, “It is so creepy and doesn’t work in real life.” Pascal also pointed out that doing the character voice over a parent’s cell phone to a young fan who wouldn’t recognize him without his iconic helmet anyway isn’t a lot of fun for him either.
Of course, while the costume may help sell the voice, not to mention make it easy to get into character, Pascal points out that it has more than a few drawbacks when it comes to performing. It’s like putting on a head-to-toe glove with weights on it,” Pascal told Empire about his character’s heavy armor. “It’s ironic that you can’t see any facial expression because it puts you in the world so completely, and instantly makes the character feel real — but you can’t see sh*t!”
Fans will be able to see Pascal fully suited up again when The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres on Disney Plus on March 1.
