By now we’re all familiar with the tactics of Marjorie Taylor Greene. She takes a contentious issue, lies about it, and brings up something completely different to compare it to. For example, she used President’s Day to call for a national divorce, called Jan. 6 protests peaceful and now she’s blaming the recent shooting at Covenant School in Tennessee on the shooter being transgender.
In a startling new low for Greene, she’s blaming the shooting on “hormones like testosterone” with absolutely zero evidence of anything. The idea that that hormones are to blame for gun violence is not only complete fantasy but also dangerous rhetoric that puts the lives of trans people in danger.
This woman is a liar. Not a smart liar, either. She just makes things up and runs with them. It’s disgusting, and it’s unfortunately a shared view of a lot of people. This isn’t even the first time she’s tied a shooting to being trans, either.
Greene is shameless. After the shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado, she posted a photo of herself with an AR-15 over a dead hog. The post was taken down but here’s a screenshot per The Daily Mail.
It’s unfortunate that Greene is one of many far-right Republicans who blatantly support gun ownership no matter what, and even flaunt their allegiance to it. Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) loves guns so much he sent out a Christmas card with everyone in his family (except the youngest, who holds up holding a “peace” sign) brandishing assault rifles.
There’s also the case of Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who received more than $1 million over the years from the National Rifle Association (NRA) in campaign donations. Despite literally everyone calling for “prayers,” it doesn’t seem like much is going to change as long as the money keeps pouring in.
