Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
It’s no secret that a variety of Mario games will be featured in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, not just the original series. Titles like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros were seen in the trailer, which got fans wondering which other Mario games will also be included in this film.
Another title that garnered speculation during the trailer’s release is Luigi’s Mansion. In the first trailer, we see Luigi enter a haunted building during his escape. Not to mention, the word “mansion” was mentioned during an automated voicemail message if you call SMB Plumbing’s official number. So does that mean that Luigi’s Mansion is also another Mario title that was included in the film?
Is Luigi’s Mansion shown in The Super Mario Bros. Movie?
In the original Super Mario franchise, Luigi’s Mansion is a not-so-horrifying action-adventure game, where Luigi wins a haunted mansion located in a dark forest. It turns out that the mansion was a trap created by King Boo, in hopes to enact his revenge against the Mario Bros. and it’s up to Luigi to step up and save the day.
In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Luigi lands in a similar area after he gets separated from his brother during their initial journey to the Mushroom Kingdom. Luigi flees from a horde of Dry Bones and makes his way into an abandoned building. However, upon closer inspection, the building that Luigi enters is not a mansion, but rather an abandoned castle.
Where Luigi landed is an area that was claimed by King Bowser, and not a haunted forest. This land is filled with lava rivers and is occupied by Shy Guys, just in case someone outside of Bowser’s army enters. This means that sadly, Luigi’s Mansion isn’t referenced in the film. But perhaps it could be in a sequel if Nintendo plans to make one.
If you want to see more of the Mushroom Kingdom come to life, The Super Mario Bros. Movie will hit theaters on April 5, 2023.
