These days, it’s not enough for fans to get antsy over the mere content of the latest superhero movies to come along — although they definitely do that too — as the behind-the-scenes furor that seems inescapable for any comic book film of late grabs much of the attention. Right now, for instance, Marvel is under the microscope for its continued silence on Jonathan Majors, whose time as Kang may already be over following domestic assault allegations, while DC’s The Flash stars Ezra Miller, who’s been a contentious figure for some time.
So with the release of a new trailer for The Flash, a battle that was already raging online has intensified, regarding the differences in how Majors and Miller’s careers are progressing. While Majors is being dropped from a range of projects in the face of accusations that have yet to be proven in court, Miller has already faced their fair share of legal trouble and was infamously filmed strangling someone. So the fact that Miller is starring in Warner Bros.’ big summer blockbuster is inspiring a lot of ire.
Many feel repercussions for Miller’s actions are long overdue.
Other controversy-courting celebrities are likewise entering the chat, including Beef‘s David Choe…
… And Miller’s fellow DC star, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘s Amber Heard.
For a lot of commentators, the reason for the different treatment of Majors and Miller is depressingly simple.
Others, meanwhile, think the talk of Miller getting off scot-free isn’t exactly accurate, given that they have no current projects beyond The Flash.
Well, as Michael Keaton’s Batman likes to say, let’s get nuts.
Don’t forget that this $200 million movie — that WB couldn’t junk without wasting a fortune — was shot before Miller’s misdemeanors came to light.
Alternatively, are both Majors and Miller “too big to fail?”
