In one crucial moment, our lives can change forever and Star-Lord himself is well aware of it. With a little push forward from James Gunn and his incessant demand for perseverance, Chris Pratt learned all about the importance of a big audition.
If Pratt’s interview with TheHollywoodReporter has told us anything, is that in 2014 the Marvel Cinematic Universe changed forever, and it was all due to Gunn’s faith in the Super Mario Bros. actor. Despite already being a known presence in the industry from his role as Andy in Parks & Recreation, the semi-experienced actor allegedly nearly blew up all of his chances of working in the biggest franchise in the world. According to Pratt, his audition was so terrible that Gunn had to intervene and offer a piece of advice.
“‘I don’t know what you’re doing, but you’re blowing it,’ Pratt remembers him saying. Then Gunn added, ‘This is the moment right now. You just need to stop doing whatever you’re doing and just be real. Just be you.’”
The moment stuck in Pratt’s mind, perhaps for the best. Pratt continued recalling the life-changing moment that marked his career, and apparently, he recalled filmmaker’s words even while auditioning. Thankfully, the harsh yet necessary message came at the right time, and for almost a decade, Pratt has been shedding blood and tears while portraying arguably the funniest hero in the saga.
Since then, the actor has remained a staple in Hollywood, becoming one of the greatest names in the industry – despite all of the controversies surrounding his beliefs and questionable actions. Most recently, Pratt is partaking in all the glory brought by Super Mario Bros., which is currently in theatres.
