After a wait of almost two years, blockbuster fantasy series Sweet Tooth has returned to Netflix for its second run of episodes, promising more action, heart, humor, and adventure than ever before.
The latest run of episodes opens with Christian Convery’s Gus imprisoned after being captured by the Last Men, but at least he’s got plenty of other hybrids for company. Arguably the most notable is Naledi Murray’s Wendy, seeing as she’s more connected than most to Gus’ adventures given that her adoptive mother Aimee (Dania Ramirez) is currently partnered up with Nonso Anozie’s Tommy Jeppered to try and bust all the kids out from their incarceration.
Prior to Sweet Tooth‘s second season premiering, We Got This Covered had the chance to speak to Convery and Murray about the show, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’re pretty much on the same page as their characters when it comes to their personal preferences in terms of action and emotion.
Murray admitted that as much as she enjoys the set pieces, it’s all about the stakes for the characters first and foremost.
“The stakes are definitely higher. And the action scenes, honestly, I always love action because sometimes it can be a bit serious when you really have to get into like your character. And it can be a lot emotionally, so sometimes it’s nice to have a little action and break that up. But sometimes, there is an action moment that has high stakes. So you’re always acting, but you have to blend everything together. It’s a bit chaotic, but also fun. So I wouldn’t really say that I have a preference, but it is really fun doing action.”
Meanwhile, Convery anointed himself as a “stunt guy,” which is fear enough when he’s gone up against the fearsome Cocaine Bear and lived to tell the tale.
“I really love action. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I love stunts. I’m a stunt guy. I love action, but I think my favorite would have to be doing more drama stuff, because you really can take a deep emotional dive into your character and yourself, and you can really bring out the best in your acting and your character. And that’s what I feel is best about the drama scenes.”
