Lucasfilm realized early on that their Star Wars Disney Plus shows had to stand proudly alongside the movies. The Mandalorian‘s first season didn’t skimp on the CGI, the introduction of the Volume helped bring the world to life, and the production design was second-to-none. But somewhere along the way corners began being cut, with more recent Star Wars Disney Plus shows featuring action sequences that maybe could have used a little more time in the oven.
Now, fans on Reddit are busily debating the topic of which Star Wars movie or TV show has the worst action scenes.
Perhaps inevitably, the top examples are all from the Disney Plus shows, with multiple nominations for The Book of Boba Fett. Admittedly this was a slightly rushed production, though we’re surprised that Robert Rodriguez of all people turned out such limp action. Notable candidates are Boba making head-scratchingly poor decisions in combat, the bizarrely slow-moving moped chase through the streets of Mos Espa, and the Krrsantan’s completely ineffectual assassination.
But we think the ridiculous sequence early in Obi-Wan Kenobi where Leia is chased through a forest by Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers takes the biscuit. The actors chasing her are clearly moving stupidly slowly and could easily catch her, and no amount of tricky editing can hide it. As one reply notes: “When she went under some knee-high branch and the guy acted like he couldn’t get past it, I was like is this for real?”
The first time a sequence from the movies is mentioned is way down the page, where someone brings up Jar Jar taking out a group of droids with the droid attached to his foot “while he prances around” in The Phantom Menace. However, compared to the low-effort The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi scenes mentioned above, Jar Jar’s antics may as well be the lobby shootout from The Matrix.
