Christopher Nolan’s Next Film To Be Based On An Original Idea?

With all of the hype surrounding the release of The Dark Knight Rises, there has also come a good amount of speculation as to what director/writer Christopher Nolan will tackle next. We've already heard that he is not doing another Batman film and that he wants no part of a Justice League movie, so what would he move on to?

Today we have word straight from actor Michael Caine, who has been a frequent collaborator with Nolan, having starred in his last five films, that Nolan has a new idea.

Here’s what Caine had to say in a recent interview:

He’s got some other idea, and I’m in it! I’ve been in everything he’s done since he’s been in Hollywood. We’re each others’ good luck charms. I always say to him, ‘I’m not your good luck charm, you are mine!’

Now, the news here isn’t so much that Caine will be starring in it, that’s just something we’ve come to expect with his multiple appearances in Nolan’s films, but rather that it sounds like Nolan will be tackling a new original story.

With the amount of sway that Nolan has in Hollywood, he basically has the power to make any film he wants, so when he puts an original idea on the table, Warner Bros. listens with attentive ears. You may recall that the last time he presented us with an original story, he gave us the brilliant film Inception, which topped my list of The Best Films of 2010.

I still consider Nolan to be the greatest director working today given his uniqueness of vision and his willingness to go all-out to give us something that we’ve never seen before. He’s also one of the very few directors that has enough sway with me personally to the point where I’m dying to see whatever they do next, regardless of what the film’s about. Hearing that he’s possibly tackling an original idea gets me super excited, but even if he decides to do another adaptation like The Prestige, I won’t be any less excited.

In the meantime, you can check out his latest film, The Dark Knight Rises, when it hits theaters on July 20.

What would you like to see Nolan tackle next? Something original? Another superhero flick? James Bond maybe? Let us know in the comments!
