Standing and applauding is now becoming the norm for the Depp family.

Just when you thought the headlines surrounding the Depp family dynasty would be restricted solely to father Johnny, along comes his daughter Lily-Rose to set temperatures rising as the star of HBO’s incendiary upcoming series The Idol.

Thanks to a behind the scenes report that emerged a few months back – which has since been debunked by the key creatives – we’d been conditioned to expect one of the year’s most polarizing releases across any genre and medium. As it turns out, that proved to be a massive understatement, with the widespread debauchery and graphic sexual nature of the show leaving critics turned off.

However, it still managed to get a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, which saw Lily-Rose become the second member of her clan to enjoy the adulation that comes with premiering at the annual gala, with Johnny’s comeback role in French-language historical drama Jeanne du Barry getting the exact same treatment.

With that in mind, the 23 year-old was understandably thrilled to share her happiness for her Academy Award-nominated old man in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, seeing as standing and clapping is apparently the new family business.

“I’m super happy for him. I’m super excited. And it’s so awesome that we get to do projects that we’re super proud of.”

The downside is that neither The Idol nor Jeanne du Barry have been lavished with widespread critical acclaim, but that hasn’t taken the shine off both Lily-Rose and Johnny getting to enjoy their respective moments in the sun at Cannes.
