‘It’s not the Netflix show’: ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ star warns the Disney Plus revival will be very different

It's not 'Daredevil' season four.

They say be careful what you wish for, and something tells me Marvel fans are going to learn the meaning of this warning when Daredevil: Born Again gets here. That’s not to say that I expect it to be a bad series, but no doubt many expecting it to simply be the next chapter of the original Netflix drama will be sorely disappointed when it turns out to be something much more in keeping with the vibe of Marvel Studios’ Disney Plus offerings.

The Kingpin himself Vincent D’Onofrio has essentially said just as much himself in a recent interview with ComicBook.com. When asked whether the scripts for Born Again, which is shooting now amid some disruptions caused by the WGA strike, comprise a “tonal shift” away from what we’ve seen of these characters before, the Wilson Fisk actor made clear that he believes this is certainly the case.

As he states at around the 0:55 timestamp in the above clip, which was reshared on the r/MarvelStudios subreddit, D’Onofrio admitted that Born Again is “not the Netflix show” but, whatever it is, he and Matt Murdock star Charlie Cox are having a blast making it.

“I mean, I think it’s definitely a new show. It’s not the Netflix show. It’s definitely a new show. All I can say is that Charlie and I are not bored. We’re having a great time. And I think everybody else, we have a great cast, I think everybody else is having a great time too.”

D’Onofrio continued speaking on his and Cox’s experiences while filming, promising that “the scenes are great,” but stopped short of saying too much as he was “skirting around specifics.” The Hawkeye veteran then stressed once again that it’s “a different show, and it feels like a different show,” but the way that the Born Again team has crafted something new is apparently very well done. “It’s smart,” was how D’Onofrio succinctly put it.

Oh, and for anyone living in fear that it could happen again, the actor confirmed in the same interview that Kingpin definitely won’t be wearing his Hawaiian shirt from Hawkeye again in Daredevil: Born Again. So be thankful for small mercies.
