Jack Black releasing a brand new music video out of nowhere is exactly what we all needed today

God bless this man.

Jack Black‘s band, Tenacious D, have released a brand new music video without any forewarning, and it’s exactly what we needed to spice up our Thursday as we head towards a fun-filled weekend. When he isn’t belting out bangers in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and getting “Peaches” stuck in our heads for two months straight, he’s keeping his music career alive in different ways. Some know him from School of Rock, others as Po from Dreamworks’ Kung Fu Panda, and the newer generation might only know him as the voice of Bowser, but not many are fully aware that he’s a gifted musician on the side.

Tenacious D is a duo band consisting of Black and Kyle Glass, a fellow actor and acoustic guitar player. It was founded in 1994 and the name derives from the common phrase “tenacious defense,” often used in NBA basketball sportscasters, particularly Walt Frazier and Marv Albert. Prior to the release of their first album in 2001, the duo had a three-episode TV series on HBO Max — now known as simply “Max.”

On May 6, 2023, the duo began their “The Spicy Meatball Tour” by performing two new original songs, “The Spicy Meatball Song” and “Video Games,” at Shaky Knees Music Festival. And now, June 1, Tenacious D have unveiled a new music video called “Wicked Game,” which is a cover of Chris Isaak’s song of the same name.

In the video, Black and Glass are seen wearing swimsuits — Black in a leotard, and Glass in white shorts resembling underwear — as they stroll along the beach, splashing in the waves and basking in the sunlight. The song has become a fan-favorite request at the duo’s live performances, which explains the excessive demand for an accompanying video.

He might not have escaped the “Peaches” pandemic just yet, but Black continues to delight us with his fun and quirky personality, whether he’s voicing a giant dragon-lizard or acting his goofy self for a day at the seaside.
