Anime fans are being called “delusional” as they seek to draw far-fetched comparisons between Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Many of these side-by-side images that claim Boruto supposedly influenced Across the Spider-Verse are — in a word — a ‘reach’ as the kids say. Although the rather out-the-box similarities originated on Twitter, one TikTok user felt the need to call out those in agreement.
“There’s no way in hell that some of y’all think that Across the Spider-Verse was influenced by Boruto,” the video author says with intense conviction. The tweet in question can be seen in the background, which aims to prove that certain Spider-Man scenes —such as Miles and Gwen sitting beside one another or Miles falling through the interdimensional portal — were taken straight from like-minded scenes in the Boruto anime. You can decide for yourself whether you agree or not, but these claims are certainly unorthodox and we doubt that many will share the same sentiment.
Many of the comments seem to express the same reaction, which is suggesting that Boruto fans are desperate to “stay relevant” and will therefore insert the anime into other content in some way, shape or form.
“Boruto fan struggling to stay relevant,” one user wrote.
“They are beyond saving,” another one said.
But there are certain viewers that seem to think the tweet was intended as a joke. You never can tell on the internet if someone is being serious or not, but for the sake of consistency, we’ll assume they were dead-serious.
“We should never compare peak Spider-Man to Boruto,” another comment said, suggesting that the latter is inferior to the former.
The way things are going, Boruto fans are close to getting canceled by Marvel fans. And that’s certainly a dangerous can of worms to open, considering both the anime community and the Marvel community have a hefty following. Let’s hope we haven’t just witnessed the early stages of a fandom war.
