Arnold Schwarzenegger has a way with words. He was able to speak about the Russian invasion without offending anybody and he also gave a powerful message after Bruce Willis announced his retirement. So you could imagine the tears fans had in their eyes when an old speech the actor and bodybuilder gave during a graduation ceremony resurfaced on social media.
Schwarzenegger’s “Don’t call me a self-made man” speech was first delivered in 2017 during the Commencement Address at the University of Houston. As of writing, the full version of this address is still watchable on the bodybuilder’s YouTube channel. Over on the r/Satisfyingasf***, an excerpt of that speech was overlayed with old footage of Schwarzenegger, whether it was from the films he did or personal videos recorded by others. From there, it helped add to the narrative that the actor made during that address, that he “isn’t a self-made man.”
Fans were emotional after hearing this speech one more time since it reminded them that they don’t have to do it all alone. It reminded them that the people close to them, albeit their family, friends, and acquaintances, helped shaped them into who they are today and that it shouldn’t be forgotten.
Hearing this speech with added footage made his statement much more emotional, considering all the success he has achieved in his career. Asides from his bodybuilding and acting career, he was also the 38th Governor of California and the former Chairman of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. While people would like to believe that he made it on his own, it’s nice to see this well-known celebrity be humble about his origins.
