It’s been a long time coming, but the release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is just over a month away, and even then it hasn’t been without its issues.

Star and producer Tom Cruise has allegedly taken offense to Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer being awarded the majority of IMAX screens for the first three weeks of its theatrical run, with the A-list action icon reportedly making personal calls to distributors in order to ensure his latest outing as Ethan Hunt gets its fair shake at the premium format.

The fact the seventh installment in the ongoing action saga is almost here seems scarcely believable given all that the production has been through, with the first and last days of principal photography separated by almost three years. Even now, director Christopher McQuarrie has taken to Instagram and revealed that Dead Reckoning‘s first half is completed and in the can, merely five weeks before it gets unleashed onto an unsuspecting world.

Based on the fact predecessors Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, and Fallout individually rank as one of the greatest blockbusters of the 21st Century, expectations are suitably high for Dead Reckoning. Fortunately, there won’t be anybody more aware of that fact than Cruise and McQuarrie, so we’ve got every reason to believe the dynamic duo are going to knock it clean out of the park.

After all, what’s the point in the leading man risking his life in the name of our entertainment if it isn’t worth it in the end?
