Will ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ come to Disney Plus or Netflix?

It's a much longer wait than we'd hoped.

It might have only hit theaters recently, but anyone who hasn’t yet seen Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in theaters or wants to re-watch it without shelling out ticket money might be wondering when it comes to streaming, particularly the leading services, Disney Plus and Netflix. Coming straight from the minds at Sony Pictures, Across the Spider-Verse acts as the animated sequel to Into the Spider-Verse, and the franchise as a whole — which is awaiting a third installment in the coming years — is considered some of the best Spider-Man content in existence.

Although it’s still showing in theaters, the streaming schedule for Across the Spider-Verse is a bit more complicated than we’ve seen from past Marvel releases, due to the fact that the property of Spider-Man is jointly owned by both Marvel and Sony. But don’t fret, you don’t need to know all the boring legal stuff. As always, we’ve got you covered.

Although it features Marvel characters, since Across the Spider-Verse isn’t solely a Marvel property, it won’t be arriving on Disney Plus as fast as some other releases, such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, for instance.

GamesRadar breaks down all the particulars, mentioning that there’s a multi-billion-dollar deal between Sony and Disney, which was made back in 2021, that stipulates how Sony movies released from 2022 to 2026 would be eligible to stream on Disney’s services — aka Disney Plus and Hulu — after an 18-month window. Additionally, Sony made a deal with Netflix that says the studio’s movies will go to that streamer before any other as a matter of priority — at a minimum of 120 days after theatrical release.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse arrived in theaters on June 2, so adding 120 days to that date takes us to September 30, 2023. However, that date is completely approximate, as 120 days represent how quickly titles can move from the big screen to Netflix. Apart from that, Sony might also want to delay the film’s streaming run so long as it’s still profiting at the box office, which it is.

As for anyone looking to stream Across the Spider-Verse on Disney Plus, you’re in for a longer wait as 18 months from June 2, 2023, would take us to December 2, 2024.
