Of all the Netflix trains currently in operation right now, none are quite so full-speed-ahead as The Diplomat; as a myriad of other shows fall to the cancellation axe, the political thriller series managed to score a second season renewal just 11 days after it first appeared on the streaming service, and production on it began just two months after that. Couple that with countless public thumbs-ups from the one and only Stephen King, and you can only assume that the best is in store for The Diplomat.
The same can’t be said for protagonist Kate Wyler, however, who was last seen stomaching that heart-stopping turn of events in the season one finale, and by the looks of things, it looks like nary an inch of Kate’s plight will be left unexplored. In a recent interview with TVLine, a source close to the Netflix production confirmed that season two will effectively take place right after season one, with three weeks having passed between them at most.
With the first season having rocketed to the top of Netflix’s rankings just days after premiering back in April, the streamer will no doubt be looking to repeat history with the second, and with Kate’s original problems seeming to have been replaced with much more sorrowful ones, we’ll just have to see if The Diplomat‘s sophomore round of episodes can bring the thrills that its predecessor did.
The first season of The Diplomat is available to stream on Netflix. The second season began shooting last month.
