There’s nothing quite like being proposed to. The butterflies, the rush of adrenaline, the heady bliss that comes right after — as someone who’s been proposed to, I can tell you it’s very real. So, let’s all have a moment of silence for the one man whose wildest dreams didn’t quite come to fruition during an otherwise opportune moment at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

During Swift’s performance of “Love Story,” one TikTok user was all but convinced his boyfriend was about to get down on one knee and pop the question during the chorus of the song. He flips the camera around, discreetly looks over to see if his beloved will uncross his arms to fiddle around in his pocket, and then waits with bated breath for him to do so only to hear Swift’s iconic lyrics come and go:

“He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said ‘Marry me, Juliet you never have to be alone’…”

You can see the defeat in the poor man’s body language. Imagine having to carry on with the concert, knowing you’ll be walking home with a blank space on your finger. Someone get Taylor on the phone stat — this couple needs a do-over!

The tragic love story has collected over 1.1 million views on TikTok with hundreds of Swifties taking to the comments section to offer varying degrees of condolences.

“Awww, my heart breaks for you,” said one user.

“Gotta find a new one now,” said another.

“Plays wildest dreams tv,” said one TikTok user, referring to Swift’s other seminal love song “Wildest Dreams” in which Swift pleads with her lover to remember her, despite their imminent breakup. (Actually, don’t play that song, it feels like bad karma).

“Well, at least he knows the words,” commented another person. Indeed, if your boyfriend is going to miss out on the perfect opportunity to pop the question, let him at least know the words to the song he should’ve been proposing to. Actually, I’m not sure whether that’s better or worse. Nevermind.

Swift has not yet made a public statement about this tragic, tragic turn of events.
