Following Warner Bros. last minute decision to both shift the release date of Gangster Squad from September to January and reshoot the untimely movie theater shootout scene, THR is stating that the climatic showdown will now take place in Chinatown.

The tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises sparked the decision to move Gangster Squad’s release date along with the removal of its trailers and other promo material. The important scene in question (which depicted armed gangsters shooting through a movie screen) was originally set at the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. So it appears to keep aesthetics in line, Chinatown will now play host to some violence.

It’s all a bittersweet ordeal and only time will tell if the finished product will suffer with the reshoots. This revamp will require up to a week of production (which will begin on August 20) and the return of Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Robert Patrick, Troy Garity and Michael Pena to the Gangster Squad set.

Gangster Squad follows a task force of LAPD officers and their attempt to keep the East Coast Mafia out of Los Angeles in the 1950’s. Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Giovanni Ribisi and Nick Nolte also star in the Rueben Fleischer-directed noir thriller.

Gangster Squad debuts in theaters January 7th.
