With filming fully underway for Thor: The Dark World, the superhero sequel has added two more supporting characters in Richard Brake and Clive Russell who though far from household names, are certainly recognizable faces and will both play key roles in Marvel’s epic.
Richard Brake is most famously known for playing Joe Chill in Batman Begins, the slayer of Bruce Wayne’s parents. In Thor: The Dark World Brake will portray a Captain in the elite Asgaridan guards known as the Einherjar, who will likely to join forces with Thor in his fight against Malekith the Accursed and the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim.
Clive Russell on the other hand will portray Tyr, the God of War and biological brother of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and son of Anthony Hopkins’ Odin. In the comics, Tyr was the former defender of Asgard before he has replaced by Thor leaving him (like Loki) jealous of his rank.
Russell has scored roles in Sherlock Holmes and its sequel as Captain Tanner and will also appear in season three of Game of Thrones. Seeing as director of Thor: The Dark World Alan Taylor is a lead filmmaker on that HBO hit, it’s less of a mystery as to why Russell has joined the production.
Though it appears that both of these roles will be smaller supporting appearances, it’s still good to see strong character actors joining in alongside all the A-listers.
Thor: The Dark World arrives in theaters November 8, 2013.
