Something About This Splinter Cell Blacklist Trailer Doesn’t Sit Right With Me

I’ll be honest; I haven’t followed the Splinter Cell franchise all that much in recent years, but there’s something about this reboot that just seems off to me. The series which took pride in its cerebral stealth gameplay has devolved into yet another Hollywood action film-esque game with explosions and giant guns galore. Sure, Splinter Cell Blacklist looks good in its own right, but it’s a far cry from the series I used to know. The latest trailer tries to show off a few more of the stealth elements along with some gadgets, but when they’re surrounded by explosions they lose a bit of their luster.

Of course, to top everything off, we’re reminded that we’re going to need to pre-order in order to get the cooler toys. I wish I could say I’m surprised, but at this point I’m fairly positive I’m no longer part of the young demographic that this is being targeted at.

What say you, reader? Is Splinter Cell Blacklist taking the franchise in a new and unwanted direction, or am I just a grumpy old curmudgeon?
