THR reports that Sony is pushing back two of their most anticipated films of next year, Elysium and RobocopElysium moves from March 1 to August 9, and Robocop is bumped all the way back to 2014.

Elysium, the follow-up to the Neill Blomkamp hit District 9, stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. The sci-fi epic is set on a space station which is occupied by the rich, while the rest of humanity is forced to live on a overpopulated, collapsing Earth.

Elysium is moving to the date that Robocop previously occupied, as the sci-fi remake has been moved to February 7, 2014. The remake, directed by Jose Padilha and starring Joel Kinnaman, is still in production, so this switch will allow more time for post-production visual effects work.

Sony also announced it will open Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 on September 27, 2013.

It’s a shame Elysium is being pushed back, especially if the film is almost complete, purely for the fact I don’t want to have to wait until August to see it. On the other hand, if Robocop ends up being better because of more time spent in post, then that’s definitely a wise decision by Sony.
