Deadpool has been stuck in dreaded film purgatory for a few years now, despite already having an excited star, a director attached, and a script ready. There is reason for hope though, as creator Robert Liefeld made some recent comments that should definitely get fans of the Merc with a Mouth excited.
Comic Book Movie reports that Liefeld claims one of the big roadblocks to the film was former Fox CEO Tom Rothman, and now that Rothman is gone, Liefeld has met with Fox’s new creative consultant Mark Millar and director Tim Miller to discuss the project.
Liefeld also blew up twitter with posts about the project. Check out a few of the best ones below.
Full traditional costume RT @GInvestor888 @robertliefeld Will #Deadpool movie have him in full red costume? Hated what he wore in #Wolverine

As Tim Miller stated earlier this week, he is ferocious in his commitment to Deadpool. As are the screenwriters, Rheese & Wernick, Reynolds

I think the success of the Deadpool game will help immensely and get the Deadpool film a green light. It's going to be HUGE

I've said it again, if the Deadpool test footage was seen, leaked, the Internet would freak and riots would ensue. Bloody PERFECT.

That last tweet about the test footage is what’s most exciting. Obviously Liefeld is pumped about the project and could be elaborating on the quality a bit, but I wish they would release the footage, just so Fox could see how excited fans get about it.
Liefeld did reply that he isn’t allowed to talk about the script or the plot to one fan who asked about villains, but the R-rated script leaked and the consensus is that it’s amazing.
As a fan of the character, I really have no idea what Fox is waiting for. The movie sounds like it’ll be awesome once it’s made, and the passion for Deadpool is at its pinnacle, meaning there couldn’t be a better time to get this project underway. Hopefully Millar can make this happen and fans will finally get to see the real Deadpool on the big screen.
