Following last week’s spectacular trailer, some more gorgeous images for Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables were put out by Vogue today, with portraits of the featured characters taken by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz at the film’s studio location.
The primary cast members featured in the portraits include Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, and Eddie Redmayne, as well as supporting players Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen, all in their finest Les Miz garb.
Even by Annie Leibovitz’ usual standards these shots are stunning. Coupled with the Danny Cohen cinematography we enjoyed in last week’s trailer, it’s clear that this movie is being promoted as much on its imagery as its beloved story and music. As a followup to Hooper’s last effort, a little Oscar-winning film called The King’s Speech, Les Misérables is making a real pitch to be taken into both award and holiday season consideration along with its fellow Christmas Day release, Django Unchained. Those two movies should make quite the festive double feature.
