With the release of Hitman: Absolution almost upon us, Square Enix pushed out the game’s launch trailer today to give us one final peek at the title before it hits retail shelves next week.

The video contains all the bloodshed that you would expect to see in a Hitman trailer, and also a rare bit of sadness from Agent 47 as he stands over the body of his his long-time handler Diana Burnwood. Additionally, the group of inappropriately dressed killer nuns (The Saints) also make a brief appearance, so if you missed out on all the controversy the first time around now is your last chance to join in all that fun.

What isn’t going to be so controversial is that Square Enix has confirmed that Hitman: Absolution will not require an Online Pass to play the “Contracts” mode in North America. Outside of NA the game will require an Online Pass, but players will be able to download one for free from their system’s digital marketplace.

Square Enix tried to explain their reasoning behind this odd move by saying, “We’d actually planned to have this mode [Contracts] accessible via a code in the game’s box, but we really want to make it available to anybody that plays the game – so we want to take a new approach”.

Since that explanation literally makes no sense, I would just advise non-North American gamers to download their free Contracts code then smile and slowly back away while maintaining eye contact.

Always maintain eye contact.
