Arriving in Toronto last night for the premiere of his newest film, Django Unchained, was director Quentin Tarantino. At an invite-only red carpet event hosted at the Scotiabank Theatre, the director showed up for an hour before the film was screened and walked the red carpet, talking to journalists from various media outlets about his film.
We were lucky enough to be on hand for the premiere and though our time with the director was brief, we did get to sneak in a few questions and take a handful of photos, some of which can be seen below.
Our chat with Tarantino didn’t last much more than a couple of minutes but he did confirm to us that he won’t be making Kill Bill Vol. 3 and that he’s not interested in doing a James Bond film. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to ask him much more, but you can check out what the director had to say on casting the lead role in Django Unchained below.
“It’s funny, it’s been a little bit blown out of proportion that I was offering Will Smith the part of Django on a silver platter — or that I was writing it for him. That really wasn’t the case,” said Tarantino to a reporter standing beside us. “Django was Django when I was writing him the entire time. I didn’t really have an idea who would play him. Now though, I can’t imagine anybody but Jamie being Django!”
We also have some video of the event below, courtesy of The Gate.
Thanks to Allie Schwartz for helping with the photos.
