Lionsgate has released two great new posters for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire that provide us with a tiny glimpse of what happens after Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen win the 74th Hunger Games in the first installment.
Now that Peeta and Katniss have survived the brutal televised games, they are required to go on a Victory Tour, in which they visit all twelve districts of Panem. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire finds President Snow unhappy with Katniss’ little stunt during the games, while the districts pursue the idea of a rebellion as everyone prepares for the 75th Annual Hunger Games.
The posters look bright, polished and stunning, and they emphasize some of the themes in the book. With the elegant look of the characters in the new one-sheet, we can speculate that they’re representing the Capitol during their visit. The poster’s sleekness also provides a striking and startling contrast to the dullness of the poor districts. For example, Peeta and Katniss are dressed in dazzling white outfits, which somewhat present a contradiction to their coal mining district.
In addition, the two characters don’t look happy being the Capitol’s trophy wives either. I think their expressions shed a little light on one of the book’s relevant themes, which relates to government oppression. Their unhappiness tells us that just because they’re victors doesn’t mean they’re in control, as it probably wouldn’t have been their choice to go on tour immediately after their traumatic experience.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will see Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Donald Sutherland all reprising their roles, with the new addition of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin, Jeffrey Wright, Jena Malone and Amanda Plummer.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be in theatres on November 22nd, 2013. In the meantime, check out the posters below and let us know your thoughts.
