Gareth Edwards has continued the recent trend of directly interacting with online fans by releasing a short video from the set of Godzilla. The clip, while brief, still provides a fleeting insight into the extent of the film’s production, which began its first day of shooting yesterday in Vancouver, Canada.
Check out the video below:
Bearing in mind that the cameras have just begun rolling for Godzilla, the buzz generated by Edwards’s snippet provides a clear indication of the excitement orbiting Legendary Picture’s blockbuster reboot.
The project was unveiled back at the San Diego Comic-Con last year, which included a trailer that many film journalists described as a dark and brooding visualisation of the infamous Japanese behemoth.
This is a movie I’m positively stoked for. Gareth Edwards knows his way around visual effects better than most, as his 2010 indie hit Monsters proved, plus the film’s casting net has pulled in some true industry gems.
Just yesterday, Ken Watanabe joined the already promising cast list, which also heralds Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, who I assume will play the central duo alongside Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston.
With a release date penned for May 16th 2014, it’ll be some time yet until we hear any news related to Godzilla’s story. Believe me, I’ve scoured the 16 second clip above for any intricate details but it’s a lost cause, unfortunately Edwards is merely providing a pleasant update from the set. Until 2014, we can only wait with bated breath.
What’s your view on Godzilla? Do you feel that Hollywood deserves another crack at the Japanese legend?
