Cameron Diaz To Make Sex Tape With Jason Segel

The team behind Bad Teacher, 2011's foul-mouthed comedy, have reunited in the hopes of recapturing the success of Cameron Diaz behaving badly. Sony are bringing in director Jake Kasdan, co-star Jason Segel and are now in early stages of securing Diaz as the female lead for Sex Tape. Diaz has been linked to the project for over a year now without any confirmation from the actress. Sources at The Wrap announced today that a sealed deal is anticipated by the end of the week.

Sex Tape, written by Kate Angelo, tells the tale of a married couple who one night decide to inject some passion into their relationship by making a sex tape. Of course, come the morning the tape is missing, leading to no doubt a madcap chase all over town to find out who stole it and how to retrieve it. This variety of situational comedy often leads to screen ranting and audience frustration at the character’s idiotic choices in favour of forwarding the plot. We shall see if that’s the case here.

Looking at screenwriter Angelo’s previous efforts, her most recent filmic endeavour was 2010’s J-Lo rom-com The Back-Up Plan, which no one saw, as well as a ton of Will & Grace episodes. That being said, Kasdan, Segel and Diaz have got the skills to pull off a witty adult comedy and secure a decent box office haul, as Bad Teacher raked in $216 million worldwide with an R-Rating. If Sex Tape keeps the title and premise and aims for a similar tone, then we could be treated to the best adult comedy since Bridesmaids.

Alas, a talented cast and corking idea doesn’t always lead to comedy gold. Let’s pray they don’t make another Date Night.

What do you think to another Cameron Diaz comedy with hijinks galore and a missing sex tape? Excited? Sound off below.
