Listen up folks, ’cause this spot of casting news is caught up in the crossfire of competing studios and franchises. As anyone with a pulse knows, The Avengers 2 is Marvel’s centrepiece for the almighty colossus which is their Phase Two. This means, it’ll be the bang at the end of the firework, the period at the end of a sentence. Alright, enough analogies. It’s gonna be a big deal. Hence the reason for such interest in the tiniest speck of rumour. Now word is circulating that a Kick Ass star could be signing on.

According to Deadline’s sources, Marvel are pursuing Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the role of Quicksilver. Also known as Pietro Maximoff, Quicksilver is the brother of Scarlet Witch. He first appeared in the X-Men comics before joining forces with The Avengers. You’ll recognise the name from news reports as director Bryan Singer tweeted recently that he’d snagged Evan Peters for the same role in X-Men: Days Of Future Past. How can that be? Well, due to a rights loophole, both Fox and Marvel are able to use the characters in their respective film series.

Either way, this news is still at the rumour stage. Deadline went on to say that Taylor-Johnson has scheduling issues so may not be available for the role.

The Avengers 2 director Joss Whedon has publicly spoken about his intentions to include the sibling duo. He and Marvel Studios are obviously undeterred by Fox’s decision to incorporate the same character. Marvel’s creative head, Kevin Feige confirmed the rules each studio must adhere to. Fox cannot refer to Quicksilver’s time with The Avengers, and Marvel will not make reference to his time with the X-Men. Confused? It’s likely that each studio will create their own distinct version of the character so as not to perplex audiences viewing each film.

The Avengers 2 opens on May 2nd 2015.

What do you think of Taylor-Johnson playing Quicksilver? You know what to do.
