Gil Kenan (Monster House) is set to direct from a screenplay written by Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsey-Abaire (Oz: The Great and Powerful). The horror remake is being produced by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead) and Rob Tapert (The Possession) via Ghost House Pictures, along with Roy Lee (The Strangers). The film’s executive producer this go around will be Nathan Kahane (The Grudge).

So far, Poltergeist is the third remake that MGM has slated for release. On October 18th the studio will release its remake of Carrie, the 1976 classic starring Sissy Spacek. Then there’s RoboCop with Columbia Pictures, which is scheduled for February 7th, 2014.

No cast has been announced yet for the Poltergeist remake but you can bet that the search is currently underway. Now that we have official confirmation on the production, it will only be a matter of time before we hear more news. We’ll keep you posted.

For now, let us know in the comments whether or not you’re excited about this upcoming remake.
