Spike Lee’s Oldboy Has A New Poster

This week Film District will begin their marketing campaign for Spike Lee's Oldboy. A remake of the 2003 Korean film of the same name, the original was directed by Chan-wook Park and is by far one of the best films to come out of Korea and is a personal favorite of mine.

This week Film District will begin their marketing campaign for Spike Lee’s Oldboy. A remake of the 2003 Korean film of the same name, the original was directed by Chan-wook Park and is by far one of the best films to come out of Korea and is a personal favorite of mine.

Lee’s version is being scripted by I Am Legend scribe Mark Protosevich and stars Josh Brolin in the lead role with Sharlto Copley, Elizabeth Olsen and Samuel L. Jackson supporting. That’s a considerable amount of talent and should help ease the fears of those who are still skeptical of the upcoming remake.

Released today is a new poster for the film, which launches ahead of the first trailer, which will be red-band and is set to drop online this Wednesday. The poster, seen below, shows Brolin in character in a similar outfit that we saw on the protagonist of the original film. The hairstyle is different but the costume definitely looks the same. I also really like that tagline that they’ve used.

Though we’re unsure of how closely Lee will stick to Chan-wook Park’s film, it is said that the ending for the remake is even darker than what we saw in the original film. I’m not sure how that’s possible but I’m excited to see what they’ve come up with.

If you’re unfamiliar with Oldboy, check out the plot summary below:

OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

Oldboy hits theatres on October 25th, 2013. Check out the poster below and be sure to come back Wednesday for the first trailer.
