It’s hard to believe how far Ben Affleck has come. He got off to a promising start in his career but after Gigli bombed as hard as it did, many thought that he would never work again. His comeback story truly has been incredible and now the actor is adding another great credit to his resume as he’s taken the lead role in David Fincher’s Gone Girl.
Based on the critically acclaimed novel by Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl tells the story of “a woman who disappears on her fifth wedding anniversary, with all the evidence pointing to her husband Nick, the latter role which Affleck will take. In the novel, he’s a 34-year-old reasonably successful magazine journalist who moves back home to Carthage, Missouri, to open a bar with his sister after falling into financial hardship following the recession.”
If news that Affleck is joining isn’t exciting enough for you, then get this. Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt are all being eyed for the female lead role. All three would be excellent choices but as a lifelong Natalie Portman fan, I’m rooting for her.
Gone Girl is really shaping up to be a very exciting film, though with Fincher at the helm, we assumed that some A-list talent would be joining the cast. Without a doubt, David Fincher is one of the best directors currently working in Hollywood, turning almost everything he touches into gold. Gone Girl should be no exception and with a fantastic lead actor in Ben Affleck, and three strong choices for his female co-star, you can bet that even more impressive talent will flock to this one in the coming weeks.
We’ll keep you posted on more news regarding Gone Girl when it arises but for now, tell us, are you happy to see Ben Affleck leading the film?
