Are you Marvel-ed out yet? No? Well, Marvel’s going to keep on coming at you until you roll over and give them all your money.
This is perhaps the first time I’ve written anything about a trailer premiere, but here we go: the trailer for Thor: The Dark World will premiere in August as part of YouTube’s ‘Geek Week.’
That’s right: YouTube is planning a week of special programming from August 4-10th highlighting, well, geek stuff. This includes special content from Felicia Day’s Geek & Sundry channel, as well as Stan Lee’s World of Heroes. Marvel plans to release the Thor: The Dark World trailer into the online world on August 7th.
Expectations of the trailer include some of the footage that premiered at Comic-Con, though don’t expect to see Tom Hiddleston strutting too much. The man only has so much strut.
With Thor: The Dark World becoming the first of the Phase 2 films to premiere during the Fall season, Marvel might be a little concerned about fan reaction. Both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy seemed to generate more buzz at Comic-Con. There’s also the excitement surrounding the Avengers: Age of Ultron announcement, which pretty much overshadowed a lot of the other news from Marvel.
I admit to being a bit tired of Marvel. It isn’t that the films aren’t good, but there are just so many of them. We keep on being bombarded with trailers, teasers and footage, sometimes months or even years in advance. It’s getting just a little wearing. What excitement I might have felt for the return of Thor and Friends has fallen under the weight of all that hype.
Regardless, you can bet that we’ll have the new Thor trailer right here when it lands. Sound good?
Thor: The Dark World will open in theatres November 8, 2013.
