Batman: Arkham Origins Multiplayer Mode Not In Development For Wii U

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment debuted the multiplayer mode for Batman: Arkham Origins this morning, revealing it to be a surprisingly not-terrible-sounding addition to the game. Sadly, the publisher has now confirmed that whatever fun there is to be had in the game's multiplayer will not take place on the Wii U, as that version will only consist of the single player game.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment debuted the multiplayer mode for Batman: Arkham Origins this morning, revealing it to be a surprisingly not-terrible-sounding addition to the game. Sadly, the publisher has now confirmed that whatever fun there is to be had in the game’s multiplayer will not take place on the Wii U, as that version will only consist of the single player game.

Speaking to Eurogamer, a Warner Bros. spokesperson explained that the decision to skip multiplayer on the Wii U was made in an effort to focus their development resources on the platforms that had the biggest audiences. The company representative said in part:

“MP will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The team is focusing development efforts on platforms with the largest MP audience.”

While it is certainly disappointing to hear that the Wii U version of Batman: Arkham Origins will not include multiplayer, it is hard to argue against the reasoning behind the decision — especially after we found out today that Nintendo sold a mere 160K Wii U consoles between April and June of this year.

I suppose the bright side to all of this is that Batman: Arkham Origins is still being released on the Wii U in some capacity. Warner Bros. could have just as easily pulled an EA and stopped development on the entire Wii U version of the game.
