Tom Hiddleston Replaces Benedict Cumberbatch In Crimson Peak

Fangirls, fret not; though Benedict Cumberbatch has left Guillermo del Toro's upcoming horror film, Crimson Peak, he's officially been replaced by a similarly talented and adored Brit: Tom Hiddleston. Fangirls, fret not; though Benedict Cumberbatch has left Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming horror film, Crimson Peakhe’s officially been replaced by a similarly talented and adored Brit: Tom Hiddleston. The actor, who can be seen this November in Thor: The Dark World, is joining the cast alongside of Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska.

We don’t really know exactly who Hiddleston is playing in the film, and whether or not his character is Crimson Peak‘s lead is also so far undetermined. What I do know is that Hiddleston is a brilliant performer, stunning in each of his diverse selection of roles, who will certainly bring his charisma to Crimson Peak.

Very few details about Crimson Peak are known, but we do know that it will be an R-rated horror film and that del Toro himself has described it as very adult and much more akin to his Spanish films. Descriptions of the movie also indicate that it will likely be a period piece and take place in some type of haunted house.

As a fan of The Orphanage, I’m thrilled to hear that this del Toro project will be more like his Spanish films and less like Pacific Rim. While del Toro has proved to be a masterful filmmaker in nearly every case, I’d argue that his talents are best spent making brilliant horror, considering how lacking the genre can be. The casting of Crimson Peak so far definitely has my interest peaked as well; I have to say that I do slightly prefer Hiddleston to Cumberbatch.
