Breaking Bad Creator Vince Gilligan Ruminates On Jesse Pinkman’s Fate

It's the one burning question we were all left asking at the end of Breaking Bad: What happened happened to Jesse Pinkman after he drove off into the night, finally free after being held captive by a not-so-merry band of meth-manufacturing neo-Nazis? It can't be that easy, right? Where would he go? What would he do?

It’s the one burning question we were all left asking at the end of Breaking Bad: What happened happened to Jesse Pinkman after he drove off into the night, finally free after being held captive by a not-so-merry band of meth-manufacturing neo-Nazis? It can’t be that easy, right? Where would he go? What would he do?

Well, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has been asking himself the same thing, and he has come up with a couple possible scenarios. Speaking to GQ after they named him “Kingpin of the Year 2013” (whatever that means), Gilligan said the following:

My personal feeling is that he got away. But the most likely thing, as negative as this sounds, is that they’re going to find this kid’s fingerprints all over this lab and they’re going to find him within a day or a week or a month. And he’s still going to be on the hook for the murder of two federal agents. But yeah, even though that’s the most likely outcome, the way I see it is that he got away and got to Alaska, changed his name, and had a new life. You want that for the kid. He deserves it.

So, you can look at it one of two ways: the realistic ending, in which law enforcement displays even the most rudimentary competence and tracks Jesse down for his involvement in the manufacture of narcotics and a string of related murders, or the feel-good ending, where he escapes to the wilderness of Alaska and lives out his days whaling or hanging out with Inuits or whatever it is Alaskans do for fun.

Unfortunately, Gilligan did not address the burning question of what happened to Huell, which is undoubtedly what’s on the mind of anyone who has sat through the entire video below (make sure to watch the entire thing from start to finish):

Tell us, which ending do you choose for Jesse: the one that’s more believable or the one you want to believe? What other nagging questions have you had since Breaking Bad came to an end? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
