Announced earlier this year, Capcom has officially revealed a series of staggered release dates for the upcoming Ultra Street Fighter IV. Much like its predecessors, Ultra marks the fourth version of Street Fighter IV to be released since 2008.
Rather than schedule all of the releases for the same time period, Capcom has decided to space out when the various editions of Ultra Street Fighter IV will become available. First, launching in early June 2014, will be the digital upgrade for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Obviously, this is for gamers who have already purchased a version of the title previously, which is why it carries a cost of only $14.99.
For those who don’t already own a version of Street Fighter IV, but want to jump in with Ultra, the wait will be a little longer. Releasing in August will be both the digital and physical full bundles of Ultra Street Fighter IV for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The full edition of title will retail at $39.99.
Also releasing in August will be both the digital upgrade and full bundle of the title for the PC, which will cost slightly less at $29.99. Although this staggered release is a little odd, Capcom claimed they had to adhere to this schedule in order to “ensure USFIV would be included in the largest fighting game tournament in the world.”
At this point, I think we have all grown accustomed to Capcom’s ability to milk one title for a very long time. It happened with both Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III, so this is not a surprise. What is a surprise, however, is that the company has yet to announce plans to bring Street Fighter IV to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4. I would have understood if it was coming out early in 2014, but you would think the company could have had something ready by June.
We will continue to have coverage of Ultra Street Fighter IV in the lead-up to its June 2014 release date. For now though, tell us, is anyone else excited about the latest upgrade to the Street Fighter formula? Let us know in the comments section below.
