Alfre Woodard Joins The Conjuring Spinoff Annabelle

Actress Alfre Woodard, last seen in Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave, will be joining New Line's upcoming Conjuring spinoff, Annabelle. The film began shooting in LA this week with Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton in the lead roles. Unfortunately, director James Wan, who helmed The Conjuring, won't be back behind the camera here. Instead, he'll be in the producer's chair while John Leonetti (cinematographer on The Conjuring) gets behind the lens.

Actress Alfre Woodard, last seen in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, will be joining New Line’s upcoming Conjuring spinoff, Annabelle. The film began shooting in LA this week with Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton in the lead roles. Unfortunately, director James Wan, who helmed The Conjuring, won’t be back behind the camera here. Instead, he’ll be in the producer’s chair while John Leonetti (cinematographer on The Conjuring) gets behind the lens.

The script, from Gary Dauberman, Peter Safran and Wan, will focus on the titular possessed doll from The Conjuring. We don’t have any other plot details aside from that and we don’t know which role Woodard will play, but you can be sure that we’ll be in for a good time. Annabelle was one of the highlights of the original film and now that she has an entire spinoff to herself, the sky’s really the limit for where they can take the story.

As always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more but, in the meantime, head on down to the comments and let us know what you think of Annabelle. Will it make for a worthy spinoff, or is it just a quick cash-in?
