Well, will wonders never cease? After a very public tantrum that began with a leaked script and ended with a lawsuit, Quentin Tarantino might very well be returning to his abandoned western The Hateful Eight. If rumors are true, then the director has intentions of rewriting his leaked script and going ahead with the film.
The news comes from a number of Tweets from Jeff Sneider of The Wrap (via The Playlist), who claims that Tarantino has calmed down after the initial firestorm and even reached out to Samuel L. Jackson to play a part in the film. Sneider says he cannot report on it officially, but can, apparently, tell a bunch of people on Twitter.
Now, this is still just a rumor, with no official confirmation from Tarantino or Jackson. If true, however, it gives the lie to Tarantino’s public protestations that he’s completely abandoned The Hateful Eight as a film.
Would anyone really be surprised if this rumor was true, though? Tarantino has a tendency to make a lot of noise that signifies nothing, and a public rant from him wouldn’t be anything new. He’s also not the sort to just drop a project that he likes. As he had planned for The Hateful Eight to be his next film, it somehow does not strike me as outlandish that he’d go back to it once his anger had died down. I am a little annoyed that after such a remarkable storm of public tirades, in which he stated unequivocally that he was done with the film, Tarantino would just turn around and say ‘never mind.’ It’s believable, but it’s still annoying.
What do you think about the potential resurrection of The Hateful Eight? Do you think that Tarantino can put the controversy behind him and carry on? Let us know in the comments below.
