Warner Bros.’ upcoming actioner 300: Rise of an Empire is almost here. Its March 7th release date is just over a month away and, to ensure that the film finds the same breakout success as its predecessor, the studio is pulling out all the stops. Continuing Warner Bros.’s furious marketing blitz, today sees the release of a new trailer, which takes us behind the scenes of Noam Murro’s upcoming sword-and-sandal epic.

Starring Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey and Rodrigo Santoro, the plot will focus on the struggles faced by Greek general Themistocles (Stapleton) as he attempts to unite warriors in a charge against the almighty Persian Empire. It’s not exactly a sequel to 300, nor is it a prequel. In fact, as Zack Snyder (a producer this time around) says in the video below, it’s a companion piece, which makes sense given what we know about Rise of an Empire so far.

Personally, I’m curious to see how this one turns out. I’m well aware that it will likely be a carbon copy of the first film, at least in terms of style, but 300 was incredibly enjoyable and, at least for me, held up under many repeat viewings. So even if 300: Rise of an Empire is just more of the same, I’ll still be pretty content with it. I’m also looking forward to seeing how Sullivan Stapleton, known as the star of Cinemax’s action-heavy Strike Back, does in his first major leading Hollywood role. He’s been waiting to break out for a while now, and I think that this may finally be his chance.

Check out the video below and let us know whether or not you think 300: Rise of an Empire will find the same success that the original 300 did.
