The Vampire Diaries has transformed the only vampire we love to hate (and love) more than Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) into a vampire that simply put, can’t be trusted. You may be trying to figure out how this is a new twist when it comes to Damon (Ian Somerhalder). The truth being that he completely possessed this fun little trait way before being injected with Dr. Wes’s ripper serum, but at least then he was in control of his behavior – whichever direction it leaned. Take away the element of control and you open Damon up to entire world of regrettable decisions that fall into the forgivable category. New territory for Mystic Falls’ resident bad boy – and a worthy reason as any for Stefan (Paul Wesley) to swoop in on his white horse and save the day.
After his recent encounter with the Traveler’s, Damon has lost the basic ability to control his own desires when it comes to the area of nourishment. The only saving grace to this uncomfortable situation was, in a surprise change of pace, Dr. Wes (Rick Cosnett). Apparently, even after the collapse of the Augustine vampire program, Wes still has some research he intends to finish. It must be a great comfort to the Whitmore family that their legacy is still intact. Oh wait, Damon killed the last living Whitmore on last week’s episode. Although the Aaron incident was pre-inoculation, when the situation is all said and done, this casualty will probably just get wrapped up along with all the others and stamped ‘forgiven’ – and then overshadowed by all the Katherine drama.
Stefan and Katherine set out on a similar adventure to save Damon as Elena and the latter went on the previous year to save the former. If it sounds redundant, it is. Katherine is stuck in the same revolving door that Elena always found herself in. Except, this time, Katherine is set on sabotage mode. Her actual attraction to Stefan notwithstanding, her flirtation seems over-the-top. Katherine is definitely doing her due diligence when it comes to rekindling this romance, if only she ever really stood a chance.
