Rumor: Two New Assassin’s Creed Games Coming In 2014

If a report coming out of Kotaku is to be believed, then Assassin's Creed fans may be in for a treat. Apparently, there will be not one, but two, new titles in the franchise coming to consoles this fall.

If a report coming out of Kotaku is to be believed, then Assassin’s Creed fans may be in for a treat. Apparently, there will be not one, but two, new titles in the franchise coming to consoles this fall.

Kotaku’s report states that the tentatively titled Assassin’s Creed: Unity will launch on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, while a second game carrying the code-name “Comet” will be on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. No word on whether or not these titles will also be coming to the Wii U or PC.

While information on “Comet” is scarce outside of the fact that it will not be on current-gen consoles, we do know a little about where Unity will take the series. According to the screens and leaked info, the next entry in the series will be set in 18th century Paris and will star a man named Arno. There will also be a new navigation mechanic coming to the franchise that will incorporate buttons to “parkour” up and down.

Although it is worth remembering that this is just a rumor at this point, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot did confirm last year that there were three Assassin’s Creed titles in development, with one of them being 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

I don’t want to accuse Ubisoft of milking the franchise at this point, especially after coming off a high point such as Black Flag, but this is getting a little ridiculous. Outside of the fact that making certain games available for certain consoles will alienate some of the fans of the franchise, this will be the third Assassin’s Creed game to come to home consoles this year (if you count the port of Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation). I understand this is a huge franchise, but slowing things down a little bit might be in the best interest of the studio.

Tell us, are you ready for moreĀ Assassin’s Creed? Or are you sick of the series already?
