Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson is in talks to play Johnny Depp’s love interest in the upcoming White Bulger biopic, Black Mass. Directed by Scott Cooper, the project is on the fast track over at Warner Bros., with Joel Edgerton co-starring as FBI agent John Connolly and Guy Pearce set for the role of Bill Bulger, Whitey’s brother.
Based on Dick Lehr and Gerald O’Neill’s novel of the same name, Black Mass will follow Bulger as he goes from Boston mobster to FBI informant and then uses his “newfound status to begin eliminating the competition by ratting them out to the FBI.”
As mentioned above, Johnson will play Lindsey, one of Bulger’s love interests and the mother of his son, Douglas. Currently, the actress isn’t terribly well known, but that will likely change next February when Fifty Shades of Grey hits theatres. The film will no doubt give her profile a significant boost and judging by the fact that she’s just signed on for this particular project, you can bet that we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the coming years.
Black Mass will start filming in Boston shortly so we should have more updates soon. I’d imagine that all of the main roles are now cast but if we hear of anything more we’ll be sure to let you know.
