Fans of the classic Mortal Kombat games will be disappointed to hear that there won’t be any chance of seeing older versions ported to Nintendo’s Wii U. Ed Boon, creator of the esteemed fighting franchise, made the announcement through his Twitter profile yesterday. The tweet was in response to a fan question asking if there was zero percent chance of a virtual console version of the first three Mortal Kombat games.

Back in 2011, Boon spoke to GameTrailers, where he expressed interest in the Wii U console, particularly the GamePad controller. During the interview, he told the website that he was excited about working with the console:
“I would like to think we will do something innovative and cool. We are all very excited. Whenever there is new hardware we start to think on a bigger scale. When you see that screen and controller in there, to me things start connecting in terms of what we can do with our game, enhancing the experience.”
Mind you, the recent response on Boon’s Twitter comes as a complete contrast to the above interview. However, the question from the fan mentioned Mortal Kombat being released on the Wii U’s Virtual Console. Does this mean that there is still hope for the games to be ported to the console itself as physical releases? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
