Caesar Retaliates In New TV Spot For Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Early marketing for Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes focused heavily on establishing the post-apocalyptic tone and harrowing atmosphere of the newest sequel in the Apes franchise, which received a much-needed and well received reboot in 2011. Now, as the film draws closer to its July 11th release date, things have been kicked up a notch and we're starting to see our first glimpse at the exciting ape-vs-human action.

Early marketing for Matt Reeves’ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes focused heavily on establishing the post-apocalyptic tone and harrowing atmosphere of the newest sequel in the Apes franchise, which received a much-needed and well received reboot in 2011. Now, as the film draws closer to its July 11th release date, things have been kicked up a notch and we’re starting to see our first glimpse at the exciting ape-vs-human action.

For those who may have forgotten a bit of the details from 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a new TV spot fills in those blanks and brings us up to speed on the growing conflict between Caesar’s band of evolved primates, and the disparate groups of human survivors they come into conflict with. As one might expect, their attempts to live together peacefully don’t last (thanks in part to a grudge the humans have been nursing in the 8-year gap between this film and Rise), and before long a war erupts between the two species.

You can check out the new TV spots below, which offer some exciting bits of new footage, including apes on horseback firing guns at Gary Oldman. If that sentence doesn’t get you excited for the film, I don’t know what will.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Judy Greer, Toby Kebbell, and Terry Notary.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
