One major contender for comedy of the summer (though Neighbors may already have that one in the bag) is definitely Columbia Pictures’ upcoming Sex Tape, in which a bored married couple (Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz) decide to spice up their love life by recording themselves recreating every position in The Joy of Sex. However, when their lengthy video is accidentally uploaded to the cloud and distributed across every iPad they gave out the preceding Christmas (because rich people problems), the couple find themselves racing against time to destroy every copy of the sex tape before their friends, loved ones and even their postman can get a glimpse.
Our first clip from the comedy puts the focus squarely on Diaz’s sex appeal – and seeing as Diaz recently spoke to Esquire about going nude before the camera for the first time in her career for Sex Tape (“It’s a first for me. But Jason gets naked, too. It’s just a part of the role. So I did it. I mean you see everything,” she said), the studio seems perfectly justified in doing so. As she surprises Segel in a sexy get-up complete with roller-skates, it’s a funny little scene – and I think every male audience member will be able to sympathize with the reaction from Segel’s character.
A featurette about the story of Sex Tape has also arrived, and you can check that out below along with the clip. As part of its marketing blitz to promote the comedy, Columbia has also unveiled a slew of new images, reminding us of the fact that Ellie Kemper, Rob Corddry and Rob Lowe have roles in this too. And what’s more – they actually look to be doing some pretty funny stuff.
Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher) directed Sex Tape, which was penned by The Back-Up Plan scribe Kate Angelo, so make of that pairing what you will. We’ll find out whether the film’s any good when it opens July 18th.
